Well Sept. 9th is my 1st RE appt. My daughter just turned 3 so we
decided to try for another. They started me out on clomid but then they
turned to Gonal F because my ovaries weren’t responding to the clomid.
(althought i got pg with my son on clomid) go figure! Well hopefully
they will decide to go with Gonal F to begin with instead of wasting my
time with clomid. Do you think they would start right off with GOnal F
again? I had IUI too. Also, i’m about to start a new job in 4 weeks
and I won’t be able to miss alot of work with treatments etc…
(monitoring etc….) So if this cycle doesnt work that’s it for now.
Also another question, what day do they usually have you start doing
injections? Its been so long since i have been on the meds to remember
how they did it. I know they take an E2 level (bloodwork) to see how
much meds for you to give yourself etc…. thanks in advance for any ?’s
you can answer. thanks again.

I went straight to Gonal F/IUI–never did Clomid. The doctor gave me the
option of either, but the odds were better with the injectables, so I went
for them. Good thing, since they worked first try!
However *if* I need fertility tx again, I will probably try Clomid first. I
think it probably would have worked for me.
I think it’s just a matter of personal preference and if you’re kind of on a
time frame with your job and ttc, I think I’d skip Clomid and go straight to

Thanks Annie, i was thinking the same thing! I think i will see if they
will let me do injectibles first! I asked my DH if he was ready to
practice giving me HCG shots!!! He smiled! I was like oh no!!! He
enjoys doing this! LOL I will let everyone know how the appt. goes on
Tuesday. Thanks Annie!

I agree with Annie. They started me right out with injectables after my
twin loss. But, if I do try again for another baby, I am going to try
Clomid first. I want to take it slower and not be so aggressive.

What do you think i could have mulitiples if i went with the gonal f
first? Before i got pg with Alexis i had been on clomid i got up to the
150 mg (3 pills a day) and it did nothing. I just don’t have the time
to go down for monitoring next month because i will start a new job in
October. So i’m afraid if i mess around with something that did nothing
to stimulate me to begin with (the clomid) that i would be wasting that
cycle. If i don’t get pg in Sept. (this 1st cycle) which i know im
gambling then we are done for now. The clinic is in Nashville, TN and
is about 40 minutes away from my house. I wished it was just closer!
Spanannie 2015-12-08 15:44:03
You’re welcome! I would think that they’d let you do injectables if that
was what you wanted to do.
My husband enjoyed giving shots too.
I’m anxious to hear what they say on Tuesday.

There is more of a risk for multiples with Gonal F. If you have good
monitoring, though, and a conservative RE, I think it will be less likely.
I’m actually shocked that I didn’t get twins when I got pg with Zach, but my
RE is very determined to produce one healthy baby in the process.
If you don’t respond well to Clomid and are shooting for success in one
cycle, I’d go with the Gonal F….but I think one has to realize that
multiples are always a possibility.

I never saw your OP so sorry for my late answer. I never did clomid, and
went straight to injectibles. I took Menogon which is a combo of FSH and LH,
and it worked fine for me. I had mild hyperstim though, and yes I think I
could have had multiples because I got lots of follicles, but I didn’t. It’s
something to ponder, and here most doctors won’t trigger ovulation if you’ve
got more than 3 follicles. Mine did with 4 and I ended with a singleton
pgcy. But as I started to hyperstim, I had a sweat… Apart from that, I had
no side effects similar to those going with clomid from what I read. No mood
swings. But heartburns and I put on 10 pounds.
The shots are nothing, if you can have them in the thigh you can do them
yourself. I use to give myself my insulin shots while pg and it’s no big
deal really. I prefer to do the shots myself in fact. This way if the needle
hurt I know it…
When are you starting ? October ? We’ll be starting again end of october.

We go to our Re appt. this tuesday! We will start trying this month! I
had always heard that there was less chance with Gonal F for multiples
than like Pergonal etc….. My RE is very conservative because they will
cancel a cycle if too many develop etc…….. I only had one follicle
develop with my cycle with (alexis) and she said “well it only takes
one” well we got lucky that cycle with the IUI that it did take! I
will let everyone know how the appt. goes on Tuesday! Thanks everyone
for your responses.
I have plenty of LH hormone its the fsh i have trouble with in my
cycles. I have PCOS.
Sophie 2015-12-08 15:44:15
Menogon is the same as Pergonal. I think…I don’t have LH nor FSH, so I
need both. Isn’t that great, LOL ?

The risk of multiples is why I don’t want to immediatly jump to
injectables. Don’t know if you knew, but I had to have SR with my last
pgncy. It was Dr reccommended and just horrible, but my body could
hardly carry 2, let alone 3. I don’t ever want to make that decision
again. Although, even with Clomid, there is a risk. My friend has Clomid
twins! This is all something that you should talk in depth about with
your RE. Is this a new RE or one you have seen before??

I’m so sorry i didn’t realize you had to have SR with your last
pregnancy. I knew someone that had twins with clomid too. So i guess
either one its possible. huh? I will talk in depth with the RE about it
on Tuesday before we do anything. Yes, this is the RE that helped me
have Alexis and Jake. We love her to death! She is so personable.
Gonal F is what they gave me after the clomid didn’t work with Alexis.
I was on 150 mg she said we could have went up to the 200 mg cycle on
clomid but she didn’t think it would work either. So that’s when she
said we need to try injectibles. thanks Megan!
